How To Reduce Plastic Waste In Your Home

Our world is suffering from the use of plastic. Our oceans are filled with it and much of our sea life is dying from swallowing or getting caught in different types of plastic.

Do your part and change some of your habits inside the home. Here are just a few things that you can begin to implement.

1. Use sustainable soap

Many of us are still using liquid soap that comes in a plastic container and usually only lasts 2 or 3 months, this is obviously a waste of plastic and ends up in landfill or worse. Sustainable soaps are becoming more popular and are available in all big supermarkets.

2. Start to use refills

There are little sustainable stores popping up all over the place. These nifty little stores allow people to bring in their glass jars and refill anything from coffee beans to flour, saving us a bucket load of wasted trash.

3. Refuse to buy vegetables that include plastic

This may be an obvious one but you would be surprised how many vegetable items come in a plastic bag or are wrapped in plastic. If it’s bananas or potatoes you can just put them carefully in to your trolley or if it’s something smaller, try using the paper bags that are available for mushrooms.

4. Reusable bags

Plastic bags are the absolute worst! Our oceans are now full of these things and getting swallowed by whales and other sea creatures that deserve a lot better from us. It’s a really simple thing to do, buy high quality reusable bags and use them.

5. Buy a keep cup

Many of us buy a coffee from our local cafe every single day and that’s probably not something that you are likely to give up. So, buy a keep cup and save on that waste both in your house and while you’re at work.

6. Buy in bulk

Buying some items that includes plastic is unfortunately unavoidable. If there are products that you must have that include plastic, buy in bulk so that your plastic waste is cut down to a minimum.
